Simple gestures of optimization turn into destruction.
Through applying increasing amounts of facial cream to their face, the artist levels out all uneven parts of her face, creating a smooth and unresistant surface. Increasingly, vital functions of her face become covered and dysfunctional. The work was inspired by a stay in Gangnam and refers to the equally smooth urban and facial surfaces on the road side ads.
The work deals with questions towards self-destructive processes in our culture, where environmental, societal and political damage is done despite full awareness of their fatality.
